On the first day of the Belt Wrestling World Championships a press conference took place. It was supposed to take place at evening in the end of the competition but it was decided to move it to an unplanned afternoon. The reason – VIP quests at the end of the day at “UFA Arena” the journalists might have missed them and then the press representative wouldn’t have anyone to interview.

Alexander Karelin, 3 times world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, all ready known as interviewee number one to the journalists, arrived to the championship. As a matter of fact, he also starred at the press conference. At first, the san sniff* mentioned that the organization of the competition was excellent and later on he changed subjected to the Olympic subject and talked about Sochi 2014 and said it’ll bring good dividends to Russia which will be expressed in the organization structure and will also bring national pried. To the question of one of the reporters, if he ever tried belt wrestling himself, he answered “I tried – not bad”.

Karelin didn’t make it to watch finals which took place on October 12, because at the same day he had to be in Barnaul in international Greco-Roman wrestling tournament for the ages 15-16.




A bit later with a little late the Olympic champion, Michael Mamiashvili, showed at the conference hall, another legend of national sport. He turned the attention to the participation of women in belt wrestling and mentioned that they also carry railroad tracks so why wouldn’t they wrestle as well?

Another Olympic champion, Murad Kardanov, Welcomed the quests with 450 years celebration joined Bashkortostan to Russia and mentioned that this belt wrestling world championship is taken place exactly at the days of the jubilee.

The president of the international cooperation and Russia union in Belt Wrestling, Riff Gaynanov, turned the attention to the youth and express hope that young boys that watch the fights will definitely want to be involved with this sport.
